About This Year’s Conference
Where and When
The 17th Annual North American Chevrah Kadisha and Jewish Cemetery Conference will be held on the campus of Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, from Monday, June 3 through lunch on June 5, 2019, with dinner and an informal social gathering on Sunday evening, June 2nd.
Conference sessions begin right after breakfast Monday morning. The conference officially ends at noon on Wednesday, followed by the Gamliel Day of Learning (see Program Highlights below).
Nine Kosher meals will be provided, from Sunday dinner through Wednesday lunch. Please let us know if you have special dietary needs. We will do everything we can to assure you can eat well at the conference.
Click this link to see the 2019 “conference at a glance” which gives an overview of all conference sessions. To get a deeper idea of the variety of programming sessions we include in these conferences, please visit the Previous Conferences page, where you can see program overviews from most of the previous conferences.
Gamliel Day of Learning
In addition to the normal conference programming, the Gamliel Institute offers a one-day Day of Learning in conjunction with the conference. This year it will follow the conference, and run Wednesday afternoon, Wednesday evening, and Thursday morning. These sessions include renowned instructors talking on a variety of topics. This Day of Learning is usually restricted to Gamliel students, however, non-students can attend with advance permission. Please request permission by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Conference costs generally include the conference registration, dorm, hotel or home hospitality arrangements, and travel. The Registration page gives this year’s conference registration fees and lodging arrangements. Registration fees vary according to how early you register:
- Advance registration
- Early registration
- Regular registration
- Onsite registration
We also have discounts for multiple members of an organization attending together, in addition to daily and commuter rates for those attending specific parts of the conference.
This year’s conference includes the opportunity to stay on campus in dormitory-like rooms for significantly reduced costs. Most of these rooms are very nice, although perhaps smaller than most hotel rooms. They provide the means to minimize travel time between lodging and the conference venue on campus. To reserve a room on-campus, please so indicate when you register.
In addition, there are some hotels near the CSU campus where we have reserved a block of rooms. If you prefer to stay at a hotel instead of on campus, please contact the hotel directly to make your reservations, and indicate you are part of the Kavod v’Nichum Chevrah Kadisha Conference group to get the conference-discount room rate.
The hotels participating in this arrangement are these:
- Best Western University Inn (970-484-2984)
- Hilton Fort Collins (970-482-2626)
Attendees coming to Colorado by air should fly to Denver International Airport (DEN) and then drive or ride from DIA to Fort Collins. You can rent a car and drive the hour or so to Fort Collins, or take the shuttle:
- Groome Transportation (formerly Green Ride Colorado) – shuttle service to/from DEN and Fort Collins groometransportation.com
Fares run around $49 for first passenger ($44 senior) and $27 for subsequent passengers, so it pays to join up with fellow conference attendees.
Specific directions have colors, so take the GOLD Line shuttle through the Harmony Transportation Center (HTC) to Fort Collins. You will find this shuttle here:
Green Ride pickup location at Denver International Airport is on the EAST side of the main terminal. Exit through door 507 and find them at Island 5, under the special permits sign.
We will be having a bookstore at the conference this year in which you can sell books, artwork, and related items. In addition we will have an exhibit area. If you wish to participate in this part of the conference, either as a seller or exhibitor, please be in touch at your earliest convenience so we can plan on you:
