Bob was a founding member of the Jewish Funeral Practices Committee of Greater Washington. As President, he guided the organization as it grew from just a few synagogues to 50 members. Bob was instrumental in contract negotiation, making sure that our funeral home vendors understood that our contracts were religiously inspired, made sure families were not exploited, and was an incredibly strong advocate for low prices and favorable terms. Bob remains active and is still a guiding force on the committee.

The Jewish Funeral Practices Committee of Greater Washington (JFPC) was established in 1976, to provide services, support, and information to the Jewish community. Its members are congregations of all the Jewish movements and independents. The JFPC supports congregations and the community in maintaining their congregational Jewish funeral and burial traditions, and to preventing the financial exploitation of grieving families. It is estimated that we have saved the community over $13 million since we began in 1976. JFPC is completely a volunteer organization.

The JFPC maintains contracts for complete, Jewish funerals with funeral homes in Silver Spring MD and Alexandria VA. We also have a monument contract. The full texts of the contracts are on our website, www.dc.jewish-funerals.orgThe JFPC is ready to provide materials and training, and work with congregations to organize and set up procedures to handle funerals, burials and related rituals.
