Course 3: Chevrah Kadisha: Educating, Organizing and Training
This course covers (1) how to educate various audiences about our traditions at the end of life, specifically, community education and Chevrah Kadisha member education; (2) how to start a new chevrah, and (3) what is involved in leading and managing a chevrah. Creating and maintaining a Chevrah Kadisha involves leadership, communal education, and organizational skills, including developing relationships with funeral homes and cemeteries. This course addresses these issues, while providing a skill-foundation for students to use in their own communities. Students are required to write two “exploration papers” during this course as a means to learn how to apply the concepts presented.
